What
is Pilates?
..Pilates (pr. pi/lah/tees)
is an alliterative mind and body workout that combines flexibility and strength
to work the entire body. Unlike a stereotypical fitness regime, Pilates focuses
on deeper layered muscles, core stabilization, breathing and efficiency of
movement. Using mats and specialized equipment, there are more than 500 resistance
exercises beneficial for rehabilitation, injury prevention, postural alignment
and overall fitness. Joseph H Pilates, innovator
and founded of this regiment developed his method using a self-crafted piece
of equipment known as the 'reformer'. Using this machine, he integrated principles
of Zen meditation, Yoga and Acrobatics.
